Darkness
Shadows moving in the dark, I lean against the fallen bark.
Trying to hide my burning pain, While trying not to go insane.
Blood dripping from my blistered hands, Scars are made in swollen bands.
Sweat trickles down my flaming face, As I hide in this forbidden space.
Thoughts of you invade my world, Screaming regrets at you are hurled.
With one slip, the lights go dim, My life again is turned to him.
The silent stillness screams at me, What was it that he didn't see?
Did my love just not shine through? Was it not true enough for you?
My searing pain is just too real, I can't even begin to heal.
I wanted everything from this, But you ripped away my happy bliss.
You don't feel the horrid sting, That your decisions seemed to bring.
I hate this hell he's put me through, But this I'm sure he knows is true.
My useless body's goin numb, In the stillness, I begin to hum.
I pull my strength from deep within, Put yourself into my skin.
The knife cuts deep, Welcoming my endless sleep.

Fallen Hero
I stare at the casket; Draped with the nation's cloth.
I'm momentarily startled; As the guns go off.
Another fallen soldier; Being laid to rest.
I struggle to breathe; For this tightness in my chest.
The bugler so smooth; As he hits every note.
It is hard to swallow; Because of this lump in my throat.
Tears fall like rain; As I look to the sky.
No matter how many times I hear it; Taps still makes me cry.
The bugle now silent; As we pray for the dead.
I gather myself; As I bow down my head.
Lord bless these heroes; Who have given their lives.
Comfort their children; Their husbands and wives.
Let us not forget; They have given their all.
Let the bugle be silent; Let no more soldiers fall.

The Dark side of me
Like a shadow, she tiptoes behind me Unpredictable I never know what light will make her emerge With her comes me, with me comes her She is the darker side of me I hide her behind the eclipse of the rebellious me She is fragile and insecure I've tried to rid of her, to set her free But she is the darker side of me I hesitate to let you see Please, don't look into my eyes I fear there won't be room for us or we If I show you the darker side of me She is what I used to be Everyday, a conscious decision To be different than the product of what they made me to be She is the darker side of me I've come to accept her as the other girl in me Where the anger, hurt, and betrayal sleeps All the while she is still a part She is the darker side of me

The unknown soldier
I peered over the hill of rock And there I stood, in a state of shock Bloody bodies scattered around the battlefield From all this hatred, my mind will never be healed
My helmet was snug on tight And I held on to my gun with all my might I felt a wave of sweat and damp I longed for a nice cool shower, back at the camp
There were gunshots in the distance And shout of enemies being captured from resistance But I was there, all alone Dreaming of returning to my life and kids, back at home
I wasn't meant to be a soldier, for I was a coward I wasn't physically or mentally powered I felt faint at the sight of anguish and blood I was always stepped upon, right in the mud
I trembled and suddenly felt a chill crawl down my spine I felt queasy and saw a blurry vision of my girls, one six, and the other, nine And I reached to touch their faces But when I grasped the illusion, they disappeared, without leaving any traces
So there I stood, hand still extended Hoping my loneliness would soon be mended And soon the war would come to an end But now, this country's mistakes I must amend
But suddenly, I heard a snapping of a twig, a splashing of a puddle Then abruptly coming back to life, I reached for my gun, all in a muddle But I was too late The pain, it came too quickly and so great
I looked down and felt the bloody gash And then it all came to me in a flash My two girls, the only reason I live For them I would die, and give and give
Only this time they looked entirely sad I wondered if they were really wanted to see a coward, their dad They said 'Daddy, don't go, don't go!' I said, with tears in my eyes, my voice quivering, ' Don't worry, babies, you'll miss daddy so-so'
So as I sank to my knees and fell to the ground The voices of my girls were lost and would never be found And as my face hit the soil, I thought how my life had begun and ended in such a blur I guess that's how it is, being the unknown soldier
